My annual guidebook research keeps our tours ahead of the crowd.
I'm happy to introduce you to our 2009 tours. As we do every year, we've taken what's been a proven success, evaluated hundreds of new ideas (from my book research, our tour guides, and tour members), and then fine-tuned each itinerary to bring you even more travel thrills per mile, minute and dollar.
Our 2009 lineup builds on 2008, but with some especially nice surprises. Unlike most tour companies that have cut back on destinations this year — we've actually added a bunch of new ones!
The Best of St. Petersburg, Tallinn & Helsinki in 9 Days is a completely new itinerary for us, but one we've researched extensively. We've also picked some great departure dates, so you shouldn't need to pack your parka.
Turkey is hot this year, so we've added a Best of Istanbul in 7 Days city getaway and an all-new, coast-hugging Village Turkey in 10 Days as the perfect no-overlap 'sequel' to the Best of Turkey in 13 Days.
We're finding that experienced travelers want to dig deeper into Europe's rich regional cultures...and we are happy to oblige. Our two newest tours — the Heart of Belgium & Holland in 11 Days and Villages & Vineyards of Eastern France in 13 Days — are attracting many tour alums who are eager to return for a closer look. Two 'mid-season' 2008 additions — the San Sebastián & the Basque Countryside in 7 Days and the Best of Barcelona & Madrid in 8 Days — are back, with a wider range of departure dates for 2009.
In a few cases, we found we could deliver a better-value tour in fewer days. As a result, you'll save time and money on these slightly shortened 2009 tours: the Best of Sicily in 9 Days, the Heart of Italy in 9 Days; the Best of England in 14 Days; and the Best of Germany, Austria & Switzerland in 14 Days.
Our remaining twenty itineraries for 2009 all feature the "small groups, great guides and no grumps" that have made our tours so popular for the past 30 years.
One exciting change affecting all 2009 itineraries is that we'll have a limited number of private single rooms. These optional, extra-cost single supplements will go fast, so if you'd like one, be sure to book soon!
Browse through all our itineraries, from the Scottish highlands to the beaches of Greece, and you'll find refinements and pleasant surprises that promise to make 2009 a great year to experience Europe — affordably — the Rick Steves way.
We hope you can join us!
