Since it escaped the bombs of WWII, this "golden city of a hundred spires" is one of Europe's best-preserved Baroque cities. Teaming up with your expert guide, you'll explore Prague's mighty castles, swirling Baroque churches, fascinating Jewish Quarter and slinky Art Nouveau architecture.
Many Americans caught their first magical glimpse of Prague in "Amadeus." Don't you think it's time you introduced yourself?
Your day-by-day itinerary
Day 0: Depart USA
Remember, you'll arrive in Europe the day after you depart the USA.
Day 1: Welcome to Prague
At 3 p.m. we'll meet at the hotel to get acquainted with our group and go over the week's schedule. Then we'll take the tram together to the Vyšehrad Castle and enjoy sampling some traditional Czech cuisine. Walking: moderate.
Day 2: Prague of Kings and Nobles
Today we'll tackle what is arguably the biggest castle on earth. For a thousand years the Czech people have been ruled from Prague's historic castle complex. First we'll visit the light-bathed St. Vitus Cathedral, and then let the windows of the Royal Palace throw a few glimpses into Prague's turbulent past. We will finish by the Strahov Monastery which shelters a breathtaking Baroque library and a goofy dodo bird. Lunch options come with some of the best views over the "golden city of a hundred spires." The afternoon is free to explore more of the castle or wander through the Malá Strana gardens and palaces. Walking: strenuous.
Day 3: Prague of Prophets and Radicals
Today, we'll enjoy an orientation walk through the historic cobblestone streets and colorful façades of Prague's Staré Mesto (Old Town), and the surprising campus of the country's oldest university. We'll learn about famous Czechs such as Emperor Charles and Jan Hus. This afternoon we'll visit the slinky Art Nouveau Mucha Museum before setting you free in the late afternoon to shop and explore. Walking: strenuous.
Day 4: Jewish Prague
Today we'll explore Josefov, once the site of Prague's Jewish Ghetto and still one of the most evocative Jewish districts in all of Europe. For a thousand years one of the leading centers of Judaism, the neighborhood is studded with thought-provoking museums, fascinating synagogues, and a Kafkaesque, dream-like cemetery. Later tonight we'll gather for a nostalgic "Revolution of 1989 Walk." Walking: moderate.
Day 5: Kutná Hora and the Silver Age
We'll hop on a bus to explore sleepy, provincial Kutná Hora, once the leading city of the country during the silver boom of the 1400s. The silver is long gone, but the country's biggest Gothic cathedral, Europe's only Gothic well, and elaborate townhouses are a vivid testament to the town's former glory. After descending into a medieval mine, we will also visit a unique bone chapel. Bus: 4 hrs. Walking: moderate.
Day 6: Prague Neighborhoods
After a free morning, we will meet in the mid-afternoon for an activity specially chosen for your group by your guide. Our tour's finale is a grand and sumptuous Czech farewell feast! Walking: moderate.
Day 7: Tour Over After Breakfast
Following breakfast, we'll say our goodbyes and head for home — or on to another exciting destination!

Favorite tour memories from a recent alum:
Some of my "wow moments" are: the first time we walked on the Charles Bridge at night with all of the city and the castle lit up — beautiful! Also, sitting in Old Town Square at night with a cup of hot mulled wine looking at the buildings all lit up and people watching. And, of course, the wonderful and fun tour buddies we had for the week!
